What are your thoughts on use of force for shoplifting.

Looked like a good bust to me. Okay, so the punches were out of line, and the "officers" need some training in PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics) like we learned in the police academy. Of course, I suppose it would be good to know the value of what he was actually trying to steal before making a decision about how much force should be used to detain him. In my local mall, the department stores don't even put the electronic sensors in the anti-theft devices on "juniors" size clothes since they are stolen so often that the buzzer would be going off non-stop and the value of the merchandise is low enough that the store just passes the cost on to the paying customers. In reality though, if more shops had loss prevention staff who were trained to apprehend shoplifters, effectively, quickly, consistantly and with a minimum of "crowd appeal", we might have less theft problems. In the police academy, you are taught to control the situation with as little force as possible, as quickly as possible and as quietly as possible, this reduces the incidences of people taking videos of the incident, or worse still, describing verbally how "That cop jumped his A** and beat him down!" A simple wrist bend could have controlled this suspect and had him in cuffs in a matter of seconds before the videographer could have even turned the camera on.

I LOVED the part with the guy standing on the shoplifters ankles! Wow did he scream! Bet that hurt, too!

I can guarantee he won't shoplift there again. That's ONE positive thing!

I don't believe in using excessive force. Just *****-slap 'em real good (wake up call), and embarrass the **** out of 'em by putting them in stocks in the central mall area for a couple of days. Nothing vindictive, just traditional corrective action. More serious stuff like drug peddling and gang violence would be better served by public hangings and that sort of thing.

What do they do to thieves in other countries? They cut their hands and fingers off making them easier to spot and less likely to be repeat offenders. I like that idea!

We learned PPCT in the Army, (back in prehistoric times ) too bad these guys didn't know about it...however if this dude is breaking law stealing...so, what other laws does he have no respect for?
I can see where this thread will eventually end up, so I'm going to jump there:
Cruel and unusual punishment in the euthanasia of convicted killers...totally ridiculous!! Yet the do-gooders in this country have put a stop to it in many states. The murderers should experience the pain the suffered on their victims...10 fold! and I certainly don't think I'm alone in my opinion, here either.

    Rocky for Attorney General.

You'd get my vote so far. How's your position on internet gambling prosecution?

I guess you don't really vote for an AG, do you?

Well, you get my point anyway I guess........

You can't even rehabilitate them by standing on their ankles??? I guess we could just do that for 'fun' then.

I hate theives more than anything. That said, those guys in the floor with him are complete dip****s. Why the **** are they rolling around in the floor with him? If they are incapable of quietly taking this guy to the back room, they will get their butts kicked when a guy really fights back. Absolutely goofy...
