You can't go wrong with a Speedglas. I've had one for 5 years, dropped it from a 20' scaffold, onto a cement floor...not a scratch!
This Super Light looks good...I especially like the shade 8 setting, which is what I use for TIG, and as always lighter is better...have you noticed that since the autodark helmets came on the scene, they stopped putting the weight of the hood in the ads? This is the first one to do so. It is many years of flipping my hood down with heavier helmets, that caused a disk in my neck to blow out, and got me an early retirement, so it's better to have it lighter AND autodark. I would certainly buy one!

I haven't got one, but I tell ya what's tempting to me about it... it's got a motion detector so that when you pick the hood up to put it on, it automatically switches the lens circuitry on! No more forgetting to push the "on" button after your hood has automatically shut off.

i own two 9002x, and one of the features i LIKE on these is....the shade 5 in the off mode. perfect for plasma or torch cutting..no more with the sl. also STILL no grind mode. hello hornell, do you watch the trends in the market.
the optics on speedglas are awesome, i contacted speedglas on this new hood( i saw it at a trade show) i told them i was let down with the options. the response was that it was built for ultimate lightness, and watch for more new models with more options. my other complaint was that a $450 hood doesnt come with a bag. and a $100 hobart does????? todd

I'd try the SL If I needed a new helmet, but my Current S.G. still works great!

I like the idea of a lightweight with auto on/off. Always have to turn my BWE on. Fab work- weld a little then cut and fit, then weld again, o ya turn on again.
Are protective lens covers available?
Anyone have one yet? Reveiws please.
Go ahead, Ray...bite the bullet and get one....then you can write the review!

$227. at Cyberweld plus a $30. rebate. I think it's a "got to have!"
Just thought id chime in here.
Ive had the SL for about a month now doing all TIG work. The headgear is a bit different but seems to work great. My 9002x is always loosening up and flopping down on my face at the worst times, the SL headgear doesnt! Optics are what I would expect, and the shade 8 is ideal for the low amp TIG I do. No flashes to date and my neck is loving it. Without a solar panel im waiting to see what battery life is. All in all I give it a big thumbs up!
