I'm way behind Hotfoot but trying to catch up. I can't wait to see his next one! It's not Junkyard War but you may have to go to the junkyard or scrap pile to find everything you need. Let the fun begin!
This is my third gong. I left it rusty cause I hate to paint. Used a full size oxy cylinder and just cut off the bottom. The stand is made from two pieces of bent 2"X4" rectangular tubing from the scrap pile. I spliced them together with the bends in line and then cut a few notches and rewelded to get a little more curve to it.
This is a gong/chime that I made this evening and used the bottom of the cylinder. I actually think it sounds better than any of the others but the sun clanger looks a little too big for me...Any opinions? The cylinder is about 14" tall.
Nice work! I like them, but maybe the sun wouldn't look so big if you painted it (I'd do Gold). Its large size will be an attribute to catch wind. That stand/hanger on the top one is very good...what's the base? Great work! I'm still trying to exhaust the propane out of two big cylinders I was given so I can start the purge process and the (Gulp ) cutting. I took a large "flat top" over to a new gallery today, as well as a small conventional (round top). Gongs are HOT, women love them, and guys always want to ring them.
The base is a plow disc. It stands and balances fine but I'm worried that much wind may make it fall so I piled a few rocks on top of the disc. I think I'll weld a piece of pipe to the underside of the disc to put in the ground and make it more stable. The plow disc gives it a finished look at the bottom if it's not covered up with rock.
The curved stand turned out good...My wife liked it without the bell. I wished that I had cut a few more notches in it to give it even more curve. I have a hard time visualizing how something will look before I put it together...I had the same problem with the sun wind catcher. After I hung it on the flat top gong, I decided it was too big.
I can't wait to see your large propane tank gong.

Take a look at this gong. It's giving me a few ideas for the next one.

I guess it will work on this board if I cut and paste the address. If not seach ebay for "bell yard art"
