yeah it can help in good practices like joint preperation and stuff but I can say it really didnt help me all that much. to he his own of course though.

I personally think monster garage was a great show and the welding book was also great,If your a beginner ''HOW TO WELD **** NEAR ANYTHING'' is the book to get,also lincolns farm and shop welding books are great.I was very upset when they stopped making monster garage,That show was the best fabrication show,no bull**** like these other wannabe fab shows,
After all welding is about building and fabrication,not owning the best machines and letting them collect dust in your garage.

Peronally, from having watched Monster Garage a couple of times, I'd not subscribe to the welding practices demonstrated in that show. Never read the book, but I'll stick with Welding Essentials, thanks.

I can not comment on welding practices, because I knew very little about welding when I was watching that show- heck I do not know that much more right now, but wasn't be the same to say (I will use example of American Idol show, BTW I do not watch this show) that Simon, Abdul and the third guy do not know about singing because most people on this show do not know how to sing?
Most of the guys on Monster Garage show were sort of contestants.
From what I understand J. James is very experienced welder that did all sort of welding on air planes, cars and motorcycle. It is hard to argue with his success.
Back to the book. There is lots of use full information in this book that I did not find in other books. Other information can be found in other books, but like with many teachers, some can explain things better than the others.
There are lots of things that he stresses as very important that other books just mention about.
Book is only as good as how much good information reader can get out of it.
