I thank all of those who convinced me to pass on the "great deal" compressor, that I found for 50$ that "should work" "when all the pieces are back on it"!
SO!!! I DID find a WORKING compressor, with a good 80 gal tank, for 100$. It works well, except the electrical is a bit flaky. ( I am SURE that it is contactor issues) I can stick a wedge to hold the contactor closed and it worked flawless. the contactor won't hold closed well. It arcs badly, and then the motor goes on and off repeatedly as the contactor shakes open and closed. this thing has 2 seperate 2 pole contactors. one is controlled purely bye the pressure of the tank. the other is controlled bye a 120V coil, with an on/off switch. I tied one of the 240 legs through, so the contactor doesn't kill both legs now. I took the other 240, and ran it through the non-used contactor side of the pressure switch. It works fine like this on it's own, but I do not think the pressure contactor is rated for the big pump motor.
Can anybody tell me something about Worthington solid, heavy as h#ll, cast Iron 2 stage 175 PSI compressors? For 100$, it's working good. Kicks on at 130 PSI, kicks off at 175. tank says 200 PSI at 650 degrees. It's an oldie, 1968 I think. the tank is solid, rings real good! (thanks for that tip!) takes just a couple minutes to fill up. the motor is a direct drive, which I thought was a little odd, but it works great. The motor is HUGE! Looks like a mini-keg. I am curious what you folks might think the CFm would be for something like this? I have the model numbers, but I'm having a heck of a time finding info online. Wrenched my back moving it with my buddy, he said he had, but it tipped over off the cart. broke the straps I had holding it on too. Back will be fine in a week. that's why I let it drop, and I stretch alot. Back isn't worth 100$ compressor. It took the fall great!
