I've having trouble adjusting the Var shade control to see what I was doing during welding. It seems that the var shade control weither set at #3 or #13 has no significant chance in light. I should be able to see at least my work piece rather than the just the arc. Any advice to this hi-tech Hobart hood is appreciated. I may have a bad switch,
artstang,
Bob again. Stand in a door way with a bright sunlit scene in front of you. Set up an bare incandecent light in front of you. It will trip the auto dark. Much easier holding the helmet in front of you instead of wearing it and trying to sustain an arc. You can check shade shift (or lack of) and uniformity across the lense.

Rock, I tried Bob's suggestion and only little improvement. Considering there is enough sunlight in the morning around my garage, but the length of the elec. cord limits me the mobility of the welder. I'm begining to suspect that the new hood has a bad var. shade switch, because I didn't notice any shade change switching from #9 to #13. I've done everything the manual mentioned. I'm afraid this has to be warranted. It is a nice helmet, very patriotic. Thanks for the reply.
