Exclamation WARNING! Thoroughbred cylinder "exchange" program part 2

A few days back I posted my issue with Thoroughbred and Tractor Supply (could not trade up to a larger cylinder even though I was assired I would be able to when I purchased the cylinder January '05) in this thread http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/...203#post259203 I sent a letter to Jim Wright the President of TSC last Saturday.

This morning I received a call from a Mr. Holiday at Thoroughbred. Based on the discussion it seemed that the fault was with TSC's policies & practices although Thoroughbred would work to make things right. I am not sure if Thoroughbred supports upgrading cylinders or if they ever did (although I called them before purchasing my cylinder and the assured me I could upgrade).

So then this afternoon I got a call from Ms. Stocks at TSC Corporate. She was very pleasent and willing to do whatever was needed to make things square. We have agreed upon an equitable settlement.

It seems that there are some "opportunities" in the business relationship between TSC and Thorougbred. Considerable finger pointing in both directions. I hope they get things smoothed out as the "blue cylinder" business model has potential.

Bottom line... if you go with a Thoroughbred cylinder, be sure to get the size which you want to have forever.

    Regards,

    Ken

Thanks for the follow-up. I have not had a chance to get a gas cylinder yet, but am heavily leaning towards the Thoroughbred at TSC. That will give me the impetus I need to move up a size larger than I think I will need when I buy it. I am ready for some more global warming so I can weld in my unheated garage in comfort.

Don't hold your breath waiting, you'll turn blue and pass out. I too have an unheated shed that houses the welder and welding table. We put a kerosene heater out there and it does a nice job. We placed it UNDER the welding table so it serves several purposes. Firstly the heat comes out from under the table and rises up, just about where you stand. Second, the heat also heats the welding table surface, at first too much than we added a small fan. Anyway the heated table keeps the metal we are working on warm as well. Thirdly, if we crank up the heater around 11:00 am, by noon we can fry lunch on the table.

But honestly the heater under the table was a good idea, instead of the heat rising straight up it has to come out from under the table.

We have not seen any signs of warping of the top due to the heater.

Get a heater and get out there and WELD!!!!

My tsc traded my tanks out for me when I wanted to upgrade. It didnt seem to be an issue at the time but policies may have changed since then.

Happened to me just this weekend. Went out to the patio with beer can chicken in hand, only to find the left burner on my gas grill at full throttle from the last time.
