    Rookie Self shield fluxcore pic

Here is a picture of some welds that the new graveyard shift lead was producing earlier this week when we had our HH 135 vs Lincoln 135 comparison with the self shielded fluxcore wire. These welds were produced with the HH 135. This guy has very little wire feed welding time put in. However, he is eager to learn and pays close attention to any advice that I give him, which are 2 key ingredient that make a good student. To reach this weld quality and produce it consistently he only has about 3 hours of practice time invested. It just helps to prove that if you can receive some help from an experience weldor the learning curve can be increased quite a bit. This guy is also doing pretty good with TIG on steel and stainless steel. He still needs more practice but is showing he has the potential to be a very good weldor.

Anyway, here is the picture. Please be nice remember he is still very green and learning, however he is doing quite well for the amount of time invested.

Nice looking beads! If you showed those and had not told the story I would not have been able to tell the experience level .

BTW whats this middle aged crap, you stated in another post you are 35----Buddy thats young especially when I'm 37

    Dan,

Those are some nice looking beads, but I'm sure that with your education and experience you can do better. I think the wire speed was a little fast on those. I strive for a lower bead profile when running flux core.

Arbo, I didn t produce these weld beads. I posted them for a guy that I am training. The wire speed setting is fine. He is just traveling a little slow. Since I ve posted this pic we have worked on his rate of travel and what he should be observing while he is running the weld bead. He picked up on what I was telling him and did better yet. Sorry no picture of stage two in his education though, because we did some destructive testing on all the good looking weld beads that he ran.

    Dan's welds

Dan i just got my new welder and finally got everything hooked up on Saturday to try it out(sorry it's a 251). I had shown my wife some of your welds before as an example of how they are supposed to look. I fooled around with it for about an hour and then showed her what i had done. She started laughing and wanted to know how far away you lived so she could send me for some lessons!!! I was using the setting on the inside of the cover. The beads were getting good penetration,no splatter, but were kind of erratic(bad travel speed, sometimes too wide)Iwas wondering when you dial in for a particular thickness of material,do you start with like the setting on the unit and then change what first, wire speed or voltage. Then what next ,can you give me an overview of how you get it right. Your weld beads look perfect to me!!! Thanks, david

    David,

Dan's welds look perfect because he has been doing them for 15 years
