Hope your sale goes well. Its been my EBay experience that 'Local Pickup Only" will really cut your price, sometimes drastically! Hope not, but thought I'd throw that in.

I agree with Hotfoot about the pickup only thing. I know that (if I had the money) I would pay a certain amount for something on Ebay. I factor in shipping so the selling price is somewhat lower. But, if you say pickup only, then it eliminates 98% of the rest of the country, and 100% of the rest of the world. Because of that, the chances of getting the bids you want are slim, and bids are what make money in an auction.

Have you looked into what it would cost to ship it? I can't imagine it would be that much via ground.

I FedEx Ground shipped a Miler MIG from here in South Texas (Yee Haw!!) to Maine, and it went for about $25.00. I've had very good luck with FedEx, as opposed to the carrier in brown trucks, who shall go unnamed here.

That's the whole reason it's local pickup. I've done quite a bit ebaying. It's over $100 for shipping and I've found (through selling my old welders in the past) that it's not worth it sometimes to ship it if say you want to get $300 for it, and it costs the person $125 to ship and they can get a new one for a couple bucks more. Anyways, I guess I'll see how this goes. Dave

Wow, I shipped a Lincoln Pro Cut 25 plasma cutter from Jersey to Florida and it cost $85 with Fedex. And it was definitely lighter and smaller than this welder. How big was your shipping package? Dave

I can't recall exactly, but it was about the same size as that unit. Did you ship FedEx Ground?? $85.00 sounds way high to me! Did you maybe include the stand? A couple hints...Open a FedEx account online (its free), you'll save 10%, ship to a business address (the guy's work, even), it'll save more. Plus with FedEx, you are automatically insured for the 1st $100.00 and get a tracking number that will let you see where it was left, and at what time (as oppesed to USPS, which charges extra for insurance and tracking)
Go to FedEx Ground and check a rate to mid-America, just to see!.

Craig's list works well on welders. I sold my TSW-300 for $3000.00 and the guy drove from
out of state to pick it up. No fees too.

Hi. I don't have a welder yet, and I was thinking of buying a 187. I'm a novice - never even welded before. I'm going to do some autobody work and light projects around the home. Would the 175 be a good machine for a beginner like me, or should I get the 187? I'm also looking at the Lincoln 175 HD machines as well. There are a couple of like new ones (both Hobart and lincoln) for sale that grabbed my attention. Your opinions are appreciated

A HH175 in good condition would be a great machine for anyone, not just a beginner. I just sold one and bought a HH187 a couple of weeks later. Because I'm not a welder by profession my opinions won't carry as much weight as a pro but its my feeling that there is little you can construct with a HH187 that wouldn't go just as well as with the HH175. But, the newer model does have a tad more oomph and perhaps a nicer appearing bead. But, the little utility trailer I built with my HH175 wouldn't perform any better had I built it with the HH187. If you can obtain an HH175 for enough of a savings to be worthwhile to you I'd say go for it and if not get the HH187.

    Regards,

    Clay

As a private seller, I don't think I'd ship a MIG unit even shipping was free. The units are heavy and the chance of it arriving smashed or completely destroyed are higher than average. Just look at all the threads here about people taking delivery of units in the factory packaging that opened them to find all kinds of damage. If you're going the eBay route, I have to agree with Turbo on this one.

Machine, cart, 90cft Argon bottle, 20# CO2 bottle, two regulators, one AD hood, one fixed hood, and some wire and tool tidbits - $700 It was all less than a year old and hardly used. I've already spent more getting set back up.

Jim, Between the HH 175 & HH 187, the 187 is the better auto sheet metal thickness unit.
MigMaster 250- Smooth arc with a good touch of softness to it. Good weld puddle wetout. Light spatter producer.
Ironman 230 - Soft arc with a touch of agressiveness to it. Very good weld puddle wet out. Light spatter producer.
