Okay, I have to suggest this. How 'bout an muffler shop?
I seem to recall at one time, you could get lengths of straight exhaust pipe from some parts stores. Haven't tried lately. Now I just get the prebent pipes from the parts store, but I get the bigger tubing for a big-block to make up for the non-mandrel bends.
Probably not what you want, but thought I'd throw that out there.

J C Whitney has mandel bent curves. A muffler shop will sell you a piece of straight tubing.
i was hopeing to go SS but a strait pice of 2.25"X5' was $70+and that was just thin steel at the auto store. i'll use fence post befor i'll spend that much on thin crap that wont last a year in the salted roads.
i would like to put on some thing i wount have to do again next year.

If it's SS, you shouldn't have to worry as much about the salt eating it up. Not to say that SS will last forever, but it tends to be pretty hardy. I checked on the price a couple of years ago for some 2.5" T304 exhaust tubing and it was about $7/ft, IIRC. That was at an exhaust shop for unpolished tubing. Might check around some more. Your price does seem high to me.

$7 a ft for SS would be ok but to pay $14 for steel is just nuts.

summit racing and jegs both sell aluminized 4' lengths of exhaust pipe and mandrel bends. i have buile a lot of custom exhausts liek this. most of the stuff is 16 or 18 guage.
I got my mandrel bends from here.....shipped fast and they even sell there not so perfect stuff that is still o.k.....

I went to my local muffler shop and walked up to the pipe rack and pointed to what I needed and asked how much for that piece carry out....he pulled the cost list out and gave it to me for there cost....I just paid taxes....

The only 2 things I've ever had someone else do on any and all my vehicles was auto. trans. rebuilds---- and after finally getting enough crud in my eyes from fighting with them--- exhaust work.
With all the off road and 4 wheel drive trucks around, muffler shops usually have a better variety of pipes and such nowdays. Plus, you can be in & out, and done with it in less than a hour.

fence pipe is common. it's much cheaper, slightly thinner & pretty much the same mild steel coming out of canada as you find with 99% of all mild "exhaust pipe" floating around... just don't kill yourself with the galvanized coating.
AFA 304S pipe. for your typical 16-gauge exhaust. $9/ft & below are good prices for 2.5" pipe.

LOL i was actualy looking at some of that, corner posts to be exact.got a good deal on a pice of pipe at the muffler shop and went with it insted. looking back i still think it might have been better to use the fence post, its treated for rust prevention already.
but like ya said just make shore ya grind it clean befor welding and have a good draft to keep fresh air under your hood insted of the MIG smoke. i realy did not want to use flux core wire so i opted against the galvy finished pipe. that also alowed me to weld several sections in the small shop (where its heated) then install in the big shop.
i'll have to crall under there and snap a few pic's. i painted it all with 1200* porcilin heat paint so it might help a lil bit against the rust?????looks cool any ways.
