    lincoln welder dial wont turn

    hello,

i found a lincoln 220v stick welder for $150. its an older buzz box I think the amperage range is 50amps to 220amps. well, i turn the dial clockwise and it stops at 90amps and no further. i turn it counter clockwise and its stops at 175 amps and no further, it wont turn to any of the other amperage settings. what is wrong. i havent bought it because i didnt no if it was fixable.any suggestions?

    thanks

Fingers have jammed, probably arc craters, You'll have to remove the cover and file the mating fingers so they'll slide freely.

Hey for $150 it would have to work perfect. I see them around here all the time for $50-75 in like new condition, leads, helmet etc.
I just passed up, now regret, a Miller AC DC buzz box with 25' leads for $65.
    Look around some more,

I agree that $150 is high in that condition! New is only $250 or so. Did you get to see it weld at various amps? One of the destroyers of those is someone moving the arc selector dial while welding. Basically kills the machine, but might kill just a portion. Does it now weld at the settings you have?

passsssssssss, I agree there are all kinds of them that work like new for 100$ or less. Lead is a consideration too, any extra lead is a freebie.
