    OT: Swedish Abene vertical mill

Hate to pollute the board here, but just wanted to let anyone interested to know that I'm selling the Abene mill, due to recent events. It's in Rochester, NY. I just don't want it to get scrapped out, as that would be a shame. PM or email me, or look over at Practical Machinist in the For Sale section.

You can have it for roughly $103.50 (I think) plus carrying costs, plus shipping, of course. This is another amazing story of this forum helping people get what they want and need. I won't name names, until it is all done, and then we can give credit where credit is due. Bless you all...

Those look like horizontal mills to me, complete with 4-tooth slitting saws.

Incidentally, the Abene is a combo vertical/horizontal mill, as the head tilts. It's a rather unique mill. It's somewhere around 5 to 6 H.P., with a separate motor for the 3-axis power feeds. Built-in anti-backlash and all that. It's supposed to have the smoothest table movement of all the manual mills, and that's coming from a guy who has a Deckel (or two or three).

there is no question that these are superior to ordinary knee-mills , and that the special features Dikc mentioned are valuable to the do-it-your-self-machinist !!!

Hey ****, a few guys at the chopper builder's board I go to are expressing interest in the mill. I need the contact info for the folks in Rochester so that one of them can stop in and have a look see, but he's interested enough to grab the mill next week if it's as advertised. I told him to grab the thing and pay me what he thinks is fair after he has it, sound ok?
    What are the phone numbers?

The dumb fu(king board rules will allow me to write sh!t like this but they won't let me shorten your name, lol. Apparently sh!t, fu(k, b!tch, etc... are ok but D!ck is not.

I can endorce the usefullness of this model and it's worthyness , to stand up to twice the useage a bridgeport of same vintage could do...........and it doesn't show the telltale sings of haveing been in a Butcher-Shop......this from one who is routinely paid to go and evaluate machinery @ auctions .

A buyer should be aware that it may not be capable of "quill-drilling"....(easilly varified)
this is primarilly for milling !
if so a sliding drill/chuck , or drilling thimbal can be used for that purpose

A fair price should be twice what bridgeports of similar vintage get in your area!!

Only a few rare models had the moving quill. This one is not for peck drilling or similar purposes. I found the attached picture of an old model making a cut. It didn't say what material was being milled, unfortunately.

Hey Di(k, I've got that thing sold. As soon as you give me the contact info, a guy named Eric Amberger is ready to pick it up. He lives 20 minutes from Rochester.
You can PM me, call me at 919-924-8259 (leave the info on the machine if I'm not around), or email me at acmemetalfab@yahoo.com .
    Thanks!
