once you start getting past 16 gage , the amount of pressure required to get the sheet to part is high enough that there is considerable shock in the machine in use , sheers that get past this do so by increasing the sheer angle , and so also the amount of deformation , and the tendancy for the cut to curl away from the stationary blade ...hence hold-down pressure rises as well ......for homeshop cutting I recomend ....as many of the following you can afford saws-all , plasma-cutter , vertical-bandsaw ( you can use a dull fine-tooth blade running upsidedown as a friction-saw) , chop-saw , powerhacksaw etc.
sort-of a Harrum for the cutting lust of the ocasion ....
Dont forget the old school "hand operated" and "arm powered" hack saw.![]()

In a portable, hand-held shear, the Trumpf 500-6 has 1/8" capacity in mild steel: http://robertstool.com:8091/index.pl/tru
Other hand-held shears are available at similar prices through most industrial suppliers.

I've used a beverly B-2 on 1/8. I wouldn't want to do very much but it worked. I'm sure the B-3 would be better.
