Wanted: pics of steel storage racks

I find myself looking for that one cut off that I know I have but just can't it. A while back someone had a nice portable rack/cart. Any ideas or pictures?
    THANKS

The racks at work look like the photo. They're available commercially but are pretty pricey. Shouldn't be too hard to make.

One of my to do items is a metal rack. I have a wall mounted rack that is just a couple of L shaped brackets with a brace under them, but it is a pain and I can't put short stuff up there. You mentioned cutoffs, but not length. I am getting ready to make a rack on wheels that can be moved. I am going to make mine a scaled down version of this:

Maybe about 4' tall. Longer stuff can be put on the wall, but this has a place for much shorter stuff too.

    Just a thought.

I like that one. How about some casters on that?

I made a small unit, mostly to hold sheet and some shorts I have.

This view below shows the other side which is designed to hold shorts using the different height PVC pipes

I welded them up to have a small anount of warp so the sheets would be easier to "page" through.

Then I sent them out to the powder coaters so they'd match the rest of the shop.

Welded them up using my PT185.

Vertical racks are really nice when you have the ceiling height to accommodate the stock. I can fit full 12' sticks of CR in the truck, so I'd have to chop them down to load them into an upright rack here. I've worked at smaller shops that had uprights with 16' ceilings and it was very nice most of the time. There are those times when you got a little shorter piece that falls back into the space behind the longer stock and is a pain to get out.

A horizontal rack is on the agenda here, when I get around to making it. I have a pile of free slotted electrical channel that's occupying the place my rack will go. Need to move that stuff and then build up the storage to then fill up with it again. Not my idea of a fun weekend.

Here are a couple of pics of my current storage. The pic of the sheet wood is what I need to make another of for sheet/plate metal.

It's kinda hard to see the cart since it's sorta buried. It has 4" castors on it so I can move it around.

It sits back against the wall but handy, makes it nice to be able to see matls at hand for design work. This is old pics, they need to be cleaned and sorted and become catchalls easily. I wanna come up with heavy drawer cabnit similar to a tool cheast for small drops, I have them piled deep now and they are not as useful as the could be and I might have a sort day this winter and get rid of about half of it. I found the end hopper, painted it and added the screen bins for pipe fittings. The common stuff I use is there near the bench and I could use a couple more to do some seperation but its usable as is.

    thanks robsd

Store the steel under the car parking spot!! My garage is at right angles to the driveway so we are turning as we go in. I may need some "side rails" to keep the stuff in and the tires out, but I really like the idea.
My garage is a high density wonder of neat "stuff" carefully stacked, wedged, pigeon holed, leaned, and re-stacked in place. Can't find much of anything anymore.

If there is an outlet in your area for used store fixtures they may have something you could use at a reasonable price. Here in the Kansas City area we have a couple that have new and used fixtures just like the pic in the first reply. Try GlobalIndustrial.com on line, they have alot of options in small space and industrial. I buy used pallet racking with out regard to color and maybe had a minor flaw which they fix and there is no way I can build for that low of pricing. They the outlet here has alot of one of a kind store fixtures that can work for many different ideas. Thanks ,Teak.

Was portable something you were after, or was that just a characteristic of the rack you saw?
