    Forums problem…

I used to be a lot more active around here but I started having issues with the drop down menus on the occasional thread, so if I clicked on say “thread tools” nothing would happen or sometimes it would throw me to the bottom of the page without opening the drop down menu, it got kind of frustrating not being able to subscribe to a thread.

It seemed to be thread specific, and the threads that didn’t work didn’t work in 3 different browsers, on 3 different machines (one of those machines has been reinstalled since then and it is still acting the same), and out of the probably dozen forums that I frequent this is the only one that is having the problem.

Also, I’ve noticed that the threads that do have the problem usually show scrip errors, checking them the errors listed are “Error: ‘null’ is null or not an object”

I’m guessing that this is a security or filter setting that I’m using on all my machines. FWIW, they’re all Win XP boxes, they all have IE (2 have 6, one has 7b2), 2 of them are running Maxthon, 1 has the latest version of firefox installed. They all have microsoft’s firewall turned on but turning it off doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Anyone know what is going on?

I haven't had any problems. I am not sure if I follow exactly what you were doing when the problem shows up.

I doubt that the problem is on your end. If you run into any new issues hit the feedback link at the top of the page and let them know what is going on. Be sure to include a link to the page you are having trouble with.

Lets see if I can get this to work…

Sometimes when I click on thread tools a the top of the page I get this (as it should be):

    Sometimes I get this:

(no way to subscribe to the thread or do anything in it)

and sometimes it just scrolls down to the bottom of the page.

(edited to try make the pictures look more like pictures and less like the forum which was really confusing)

I never have even paid attention to the thread tools. I have always just hit the reply button. I just tried it and with javascript turned off in firefox, it didn't work. I turned on java and it did work.

I don't think my java is right and each time I mess with it , I get sledge-hammer syndrom so I only use the lower right click box thing to go anywhere or the PM link in the uper right

In the beginning, the Earth was without form, and void.
When one picks up some wood or metal or stone and shapes it into something usefull
... I beleive that it has to be a deliberate effort to disavow a creator.

As you work these, and join them, you feel the force and the will of He
who formed and shaped the very resorces that you now add your will and force to.
Further one surely can know when your will and force is not aligned with His.

    Phil,
Weren't you advocating the use of "small" hammers just the other day?

Mark, I've had this happen from time to time when I need to delete a post, but haven't had the problem for awhile (although we don't delete posts that often). This is beyond the scope of any of the moderators here, so I'll forward your issue onto our web person, she may be able to help out.

Thanks Brian… what has me stumped is that I mentioned it in passing a few times (like making a reply just to sub to a thread) and I get emails and PM’s saying “yea, that happens to me all the time” but no one will say it on the forums… oh well.

The rest of you that say that you never use that, how do you subscribe to get notices of posts added to the thread?

If someone adds comments to an existing post, I see the thread highlighted when I come back to the forum page that the thread is on.

I've had the same problem when i try to click the 'search' drop down. When it doesn't work i just go to http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/search.php? and search from there.

I've noticed that the search drop-down doesn't work except from the main forums page. Once in a forum or in a search-results page, it doesn't work.

Well, at least I’m not the only one that’s having all sorts of problems with the drop downs, I guess I’m just more annoyed by it then the rest of you…

So any luck with the web monkey? (sorry, no disrespect intended…)
