People are supposed to be sawing zzzzzzzz's at 2:30am. I am not nocturnal. I would much rather be elbowing my husband back over to his side of the bed right now instead of subbing for the third shift guy. He has been working here forever and has like five weeks of vacation per year. I guess that this will not be the last time I see this particular hour of the morning.

I work at night and its 3:54 here right now. I imagine most of the folks that post this late are working.......... ummmm....or at least at work. I gotta get off of this night shift. It is really starting to suck. But This is the best times to get the last minute deals on ebay thats for sure. Not too many folks are watching their bids at this time in the morning and I scoop up all the killer deals while everyone else is sleeping.

    What?

I worked for 9 straight years on 3rd shift as a lab tech in the chemical plant where I'm employed. Back in 2000 I was promoted to a supervisor and moved to dayshift. This past March demanding middle and upper managers were getting on my nerves so badly that I asked (pretty much demanded myself) to go back to nights. I currently work (primarily as a lab tech again) the same 3 weeknights every week and every other weekend. The weekends I don't work are 4-day weekends.

Now I just do my work, I don't get interrupted for DFQ's every 2 minutes, nobody expects me to drop everything I'm doing to do something for them that they should be able to do themselves, and I get to take morning welding classes at the local community college and run around town when everyone else is at work. Yeah, there's a bit of sacrifice to working nights, but my blood pressure has been pretty low the last 5 months. the worst thing is that the IT department has the network locked down pretty tight, so I can't follow those last-minute deals on eBay.

It took awhile for my wife to get used to this, but I think she really likes hogging the bed 4 nights a week now without hearing me complain.

Well, back to what I was doing before I checked in on the forum...finishing up the plans for my rolling welding table.

    Adios, my fellow night stalkers.

I don't think that 3rd shift would be so bad if it was the shift that I normally worked. I like the quietness. I am the only person in the weld shop with no office people to bother me. But since my normal hours are 9am-5pm, I find it difficult to switch back and forth for a couple days here and there. After the third day on this shift, I feel (and probably look) like a zombie.

Speaking of zombie.... I woke yesterday at 3 pm ......had to be at work at 7pm.....get off at 7am.....Then I gotta go weld about 300 feet of guardrail up. Good thing is I already got it tacked up. Just gotta finish welding, dock the posts off even, grind off the rough edges, and spray some primer on the welds. Should be done by 1 pm hopefully.

I have been working night shift for 12 years and after trying to go back to days a couple times I decided to stay on nights. I finally figured out most of the A-- H---- go home about 5:00 PM. The rest of the night is really peacefull. My wife has never really had a problem with it.

i've been on a rotating schedule for 5 years. night shift is the easiest to work no one around to bug you and those that are usually don't care what your doing. most of our work happens at night it's the day shift where you do nothing all day that kills me.

It never seeses to amaze me , that no-matter where I work , the daytime 80% crew somehow manages to to get the 20% results , and the 20% on the other two shifts actually gets the 80% done even after fixxing all the first shift dammage !

somewhere the evolution of management effectiveness has gone horribly wrong

    ricks law of management

To be a manager you have to be a Moron or a PHd (read no-it-all). If you have one of these qualities, you will succeed in management. If you have none of these qualities, you will succeed as a leader. If you have both of these qualities you will be the owner!
