    I need some pipe learning

I want to rig up a bracket for my atv to haul harvested deer from the field to the truck. I was going to use 1" pipe for the base and slide 3/4" pipe inside that I could extend out like a boom pole when needed. I rummaged through the garage and found some "black pipe" that I bought from home depot and although it was close, the 3/4" wouldn't quite fit in the 1". There is a weld ridge in the 1" pipe that prevents the 3/4" from sliding in.

Where do I find the necessary pipe? From my steel dealer or can I get something from a plumbers supply?

Ask the steel supplier for pipe or tubing..not sure which sizes fit inside each other, but he should..

The reason you are having trouble is that the nominal OD of 3/4 schedule 40 pipe is 1.050" and the nominal ID of 1" (40) pipe is 1.049" (Won't fit without machining!)
Do a search on "pipe scheduling", and a table should turn up.

Doesn't work every time but usually 1" nominal pipe will nest inside 1 1/4" nominal pipe just fine. For me "Pipe" is ID oriented whereas "Tubing" is OD oriented.

    Good luck,
