Question Syncrowave 200 vs. TA 185TSW

Ive been wondering which one is "better" between these two tig machines. i know that the TA is a very light inverter while the Syncro is a transformer based machine. Also, i have heard on here that the Thermal is not a very good stick welder as a tradeoff for the weight loss. The Syncro also has features such as the built-in pulse control and also has a 115 volt plug on it that seems like a great idea to hook up a grinder to. The price range seems to be around the same. So which one would you prefer?

    Thanks,

I would prefer the new technology over the old technology. Even though I'm a Miller fan, the new Lincoln 225 precision tig machine which just launched the other day I feel is a little better built than the Miller 200 synchro. The TA185 is going to be replaced by the new TA185 so make sure your getting the new one and not the old machine, and if you need 15 more amps the TA200 is for you since it can work on single and 3 fase. For the money your spending I still would go with the TA185 or TA200 any day of the week.

    That's a Internet fairytale.

Works for me just fine ... although now that you mention it, I have been waiting for a AC/DC SMAW welder that is 5lb max, 120/230/420V capable, 1ph & 3ph, and can burn 1/4" 6010 & 7018 rods with no problem. It must also have a built-in, rotating, SS brush to take off the slag , and oh yeah, it needs to be painted lime green, have a storage place to keep two "Fat Tires" cool, and be Made In Ireland.

Sorry guys, guess I have been sniffing too much of this Bissell carpet cleaning solution fumes.

Geez Mac Mine got here last month. Unfortunately due to its small size it's buried up under something in the shop and I can't find it.

Almost forgot I have not done much stick but I did run some stringer beads with 7018. Seeed to me to be a sweet stick machine as compared to the Dial-arcs at vo-tech. Hot start makes it a little more user friendly. " If you know what I mean Vern."

schedule a demo at your local dealer, and draw your conclusion, thermadyne is still struglling after thier bankrupcy, grasping at straws, and selling off small companies just to make it.

C'mon over and take my TA for a test drive! I think it is a fine stick machine, but I'm a relative newbie, and don't really use stick that much. It certainly beats **** outta the old Sears buzz-box I had! It has hot start, and it also has pulse built-in for TIG.

How did you arrive at that concusion? As far as I can tell from the stock market and investor reports, Thermadyne Holding Company is a healty concern which has, in fact, been acquiring other comapnies rather than selling them off! They operate worldwide with a large number of wholly owned subsidiary companies. Their 8K reports to the Secutites and Exchange Commission do not indicate financial difficulties.

Well, if your going to look at this from the factual, reality-based view, that stuff might be important. From a "faith-based" (in this case, assertion-based) standpoint, Thermadyne went under yesterday. Apparently the corporate/liberal/conservative media failed to report it. And you know you can't rely on the SEC for anything. After all, it's a big government/big brother/nanny state bureacracy that's trying to regulate the free market into oblivion.

    Edited:

The above is sarcasm. I have no information that would indicate any sort of problem with Thermadyne. My apologies for any confusion.

I'm confused. Is the company bankrupt, or not? The last filing I can find is from 1991, when Thermadyne Holding Company filed. Since then, I can not find anything to support the "assertion".

Interesting, they made 10M last quarter in profits and the loans are not due until 2014 ... maybe the bankrupty lawyers (vultures) are forcing them to declare bankrupty so they can get paid as they get any money first. You are right though, it isn't being reported anywhere I can find.
