An exorbitant and extravagent waste of good iron

Had a little time on my hands this weekend . . . also a little I-beam that was sitting around for a few years . . . the combination can be unpredictable . . . Decided I needed a new planter pot. These are 18" beams, something on the order of 70# per foot, this represents over 1000# of steel. Approximately 4' square. I like building practical things that last

Both my wife and I agree as to her proclivity for "moving" things,so we also agreed when I retire and we move to the country, I'll get a small (Compact Utility) tractor with a front end loader for just such occasions.

Smile Price of Scrap these days

With the price of scrap steel these days you've got some really expensive planters there! Convince the wife that she owes you one!

Haven't decided for sure where it's going yet. Maybe it'll stay a single, but I have 40' more I beams out back, may make a set of them, we'll have to move it (or them) around until she's happy.

I'm not too worried about cars hitting it . . . my mailbox post will get them first 14" square concrete post, 1"x 8" x24" piece of scraper blade on top to hold the mailboxes

Yup, the garden's in a pot. And tomatoes are in the garden.

I was in a steel supply yard one day talking to their shop weldor. I noticed that thirty six tank end sitting in the corner. I made the mistake of commenting about how it would be neat to make something out of it. When I settled up in the office and got out to my truck the end was in the back. He said it had been dropped off for him to make something with and he didn't have time.

Later my wife commented that she needed a big pot for her tomatoes.

Necessity and a mother creates, right?
