    Used the Cronotron rod

I got some cast rod from the Cronotron rep a couple weeks back and used it yesterday for a small cast weld. Worked VERY good. Only problem I had was I stuck the rod once and after that it was toast. It welded very well and had a smooth and stable arc. I WILL buy this rod in the future for other cast iron repairs!

Thanks Cronotron Rep and your sample has sold me!!--Grant

I doubt they give their proprietery ingredients, but that's certainly their right.

How about a comparison to the performance of known Ni99, Ni55, or stainless electrodes, in the same type of repair?

    Smile well

its required in the MSDS , it will tell each and every property in the rod. , and thats public knowlege, so if i had the part # we could see , it may well just be a nickel rod, or a variation of it .?? i agree a comparioson un-biased , would help.??

    constant current/voltage,
i have personal knowledge (learned here) that a manufacturer does not have to disclose everything, they can claim "trade secret" and are exempt, except to certain individuals under special circumstances

MSDS only has to disclose what it contains there's no requirement to disclose percentages, although most people will disclose specifics especially as a selling point, they can claim it to be proprietary info and only disclose what elements or compounds it contains.

Fellas, I don't know the % of each element. Check with the Cronotron rep. I also have not stick welded cast before. All I CAN say is that it was a VERY smooth and stable arc. Welded very well given the position I was in.

I use the cronatron 333 a lot and really like them.Have used them to weld cast iron[i know wrong rod] but it worked great and at the time it was either 333 or 6010.[all i had on hand]Used it to weld some Inconell igniter tips to boiler gas igniters, and they are still holding up.But it is pricy, but it aint my dime.

    Cronotron Rep,
I know this wasn't an in-depth review of your product. When the original project (cast engine block) comes in, I will again follow up. I just thought it was only fair, to you, that I mention it since I was able to use it even on a small project.

Like I said, I will use this product in the future and you should have a fella giving you a hollar from another board where I mentioned you and the cast rod. Thanks again.--Grant

It was a "GOOD" experience if that is what this means

I will give a more in depth review when I can actually spend some time doing better work. Like I said, with the limited use I had, it was great! Thanks again, Grant

    ok

if a customer asks, and most companies will for certain jobs, for a msds sheet on a particular rod, the companies do give them,
so basically its a 40% nickel rod, with some other additives, that answered my question, i wanted to know if it was a nickel based rod, and how much .thanks for the insight.
