    White Residue

Hi guys, I just purchased a handler 140 and im just starting to do some mig welding. Im trying to learn on sheet metal so I can start doing body work on my car. So far I have purchased a tank with a 75/25 mix along with .024 metal wire and a .023 tip. I have everything setup and everything seems fine. At the moment im only having one weird problem. As im making welds on sheet metal im getting a white residue buildup as the bead builds. It wipes right off but its kind of weird. The white stuff also kind of floats around in the air. Its kind of hard to explain. Does anyone know what this is and how to get rid of it ? Is there anything im doing wrong ? Thanks guys.

You're welding on galvanized steel, aren't you?!?!

DO NOT breathe the fumes!! Do some searches on the welding of galvanized steel.

Have you gotten the flu bug lately? The fumes will make you feel like crap.

    Thumbs up

Thank you guys very much for the replies. The sheet metal I was using was from my tool box so I wasn't sure what kind of metal it was. You guys pretty much filled me in and now im definitely gonna stay away from it. On my next day off im gonna get some regular old sheet metal to practice with. Thanks a bunch guys

It is kinda funny how after you do a bunch of galvanized work, you have to make yourself breathe when laying bead on anything else

The obvious and correct way to had this is to wear a respirator.
