cold rolled steel-where to buy

I am new to this group and have enjoyed the wealth of knowledge. Thank you. I am located in the "San Fernando Valley" of southern california for the next 3 months before we head back to Oregon. Where can I purchase, at a reasonable price, 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4 inch cold rolled steel? Thanks in advance.

Just call a steel supplier (listed in the phone book). Any one that sells angle, flat etc can supply cold rolled steel.

If it's steel the price ain't gonna be reasonable.....if it's cold rolled, it be a little higher.

My favorite haunt is Industrial Pipe and Steel (IPS) 9936 E Rush in South El Monte, just off the 60. They have a pretty good inventory, and a lot of shorts/scrap for 50 cents or so a pound. No extra charge for rust

Just don't buy that crap they sell in the hardware stores, it is a rip off.

Thank you all for your imput. Went to "IMS" in Sun Valley. The showroom was very impressive and a huge inventory. Their price for 3/4" cold rolled steel was $3.40/ft. I called the supplier in Coos Bay, Oregon that I use and they wanted $1.88/ft, a noticeable difference. I will try IPS in El Monte either this afternoon or Tuesday. How much do you need? They have a short endz area that is by the LB.

There is another place down the road from IMS on San fernando Road South but I can not remember the name.

There are 2 San Fernando rds. one on each side of the tracks and this other place is on the other side just a bit east of IMS.

Thanks for the info. I am located in Lake View Terrace. I will check out the other place on S.F. Rd. south. I am looking for pieces 4 1/2 to 5 feet long.

Check the cut off section at IMS also, there's usually that length in there.

There a 2 sections for cut offs: one right inside the warehouse and one a little deeper, back to the left as you walk in to the warehouse from the show room.

I will go there Tuesday and check out the two locations in the warehouse. I didn't get past the showroom the other day.

One more tip:

They have an Express check out buy the front door so if you find what you need just head up there. You don't have to get a number and wait at the big counter- they have a scale at the front.

If you do need to use the counter they call those numbers like a New York deli!
Fast!!!!! They'll skip right over anyone that doesn't respond right away!

Thanks for the tip on the cut offs. I went to Industrial Metal Supply in Sun Valley yesterday. Cut off pieces from 30-60 inches were about 60 cents a pound. Quite a savings.
