    happy with new machine

just got my ta 185 and i like it. played around with the tig a bit, but first i wanted to finish a repair job on my homemade woodsplitter. i used it in stick mode with 7018 rods, reverse polarity, to patch a few things that "broke". nice smooth arc. i'd recommend it to anyone.

Well, this'll get me up to some really thick stock capabilities (as far as my interests are concerned anyway). Then it'll be back to upgrading the tig trainer (tigmate) as far as welders are concerned.

I don't have eternal tool lust issues. I get to where mine meet my needs and I just work. It's when they're lacking that I constantly wish they were something better.

Fishy, PLEASE tell us all about it when you get it fired up. I know we are all anxious to see how it welds.

I've only welded with it briefly yesterday, but ****. lol I love that thing already.

I've got a bunch of work to catch up on this weekend. Will be running the field from 1/16" wall formed angle up to 3/8" solid square decorative iron and probably everything between.

More updates will follow as the trigger time is increased.

This is terrible. As soon as Fishy got his and commented on how great it was (hence, convincing many of us on the fence that we can go with this unit) IOC went and upped the price by $120. It is now selling for $1346. Oh well.

The monday following my placement of the order (when my welder was on the truck headed here), my dealer commented how the TA rep had been hounded by all the local dealers about places like IOC selling for under what they could buy them for. The rep said "they've been trying to put an end to that for 6 months." I snuck under the wire cause as soon as those listings ended, they jacked the price up.
