Whats in a name? (Of a welding co.)

Just about a year ago I started a part time Mobile welding business. I named the business
"At Your Door Mobile Welding" I thought I was going to be welding stuff at peoples houses and business, however, I now have a full time business and primarily do welding fabrication in a small shop. I was just contacted by a friend of the family who owns a feed store who wants me to supply him with all his steel corral panels. I am still keeping busy
making all kinds of things for people. I just so happens it is time to renew my business license and sales tax permit plus I'm almost out of checks, If I am going to change the name now would be the time. I think the existing name "At Your Door Mobile Welding" might make someone think that is all I do, My wife thinks the name doesnt really matter. If you advertise (I havent yet) you specify what it is you offer. Maybe I am putting too much into a name. I was thinking something like "KC Metalworks" would be more appropriate and I could still advertise that I offer Mobile Welding.

    What do you all think?

I'd probably go with a different name if you make most of your money doing other than at-your-door service since you may consider advertising at some point. I think the name does make at least some difference as people may just look you up in the phone book and assume you do one thing when you really mainly do something else.

Just my thoughts though. . .

There's a lot of value in a thoughtfully prepared name. Welding shops are usually smaller operations of one or just a few people. Using your given name may make a potential customer feel more comfortable in contacting you about some business. The name should also tell the customer what you do (welding & fabrication) etc. Keep the name short and simple so when your truck goes by, I can read it. "At Your Door Mobil" would be about all I would get read when your truck goes by now, and I still wouldn't know what you do, phone, or location.
Aaron's Welding & Fabrication would put your business name at the top of the list under "welding" in the yellow pages. Aaron may not be your name, but it could be your welding name. So when someone goes there to find a welding shop, you would be first. On your signs, use bold block letters that have good contrast with the background, and are easy to comprehend at a glance. Don't use any fancy lettering or colors that you have to study for a second to read it. These are just a few common sense items that are easily overlooked. All the above comments are just my opinions. Good Luck

    Name

The name is important, something easy to remember helps the most. Advertisement will fill in the blanks.

Now I know why A-1, Ace and the old reliable Acme are popular names. I have heard this before but it never really registered. Beep Beep

If you use a name that suggests you're willing and able to weld at the customer's location, then in my perception it doesn't really matter whether a majority of your welding business is done in your own shop.

The idea that you can travel and weld at the customer's convenience is the value.

I'd imagine there are a number of welding/fabrication shops in your area that do most, if not all, of their work at their own facilities. Check out their names. Do any of those names suggest portability? If not, then I think you have your answer.

    Carmen,

    Are you the Arc-Zone Carmen?

    Meach,

Reno ain't a great big place. If you already have name recogonition, which you must have, since you're busy, I'd leave well enough alone. Your word of mouth business is your best advertisement. Changing the name may loose some of that.
