If a ten is too dark go to a 9, if thats too dark go to a 8. Everyone one is different. When in shool some guys were using a 13, and I could use a 10. With my AD Helmet I have it set at around 9. It all depends on the person. Jason
I use a 9 for my light MIGging, as well. Remember that high quality autos and standard hoods will still protect UV beyond the visible shade, i.e. shade 14 for most to UV, so the shade is mostly for viewing comfort, not for protection.
I use 9 at home. 10, sometimes 11 at work...depends but, thats the benefit of an AD helmet, the convenience to change it when needed.![]()

I use 9 with my lil' HH140, also shade 9 when I'm Tigging up to around 130amps or so. Usually 10 or 11 for stick. Probably 10 with a bigger MIG. But as stated above my Speedglas auto dark protects me to a shade 14... it's just a matter of comfort what shade I put it on.
