    OT: Hurrincane Katrina

I hope everyone that is in her path is safe. She looks like she is gonna be a Bit$h. I am about an hour from where she is gonna hit and we have house on the coast that will probably loose. I will pray for everyone that is closer then me. Take care everyone. here is a pick of her on the radar. The purple line is where I am and the blue dot is were our family house is at.

Our prayers are with you, Yardman.
I am also an Amateur (HAM) radio operator and ARES emergency coordinator over here in Allen Parish (western Louisiana, near Lake Charles).
We are watching it close. It looks like a bad one, Both HF and VHF radios are fired up here at this location with lots of chatter right now. My emergency backup power is fueled and on standby so that we can assist any and all if necesary should it come this way.....

Well guys I am back, I survived and my family did too. We had damage alot of damage. I just got power back on less then a week ago and go cable today. We had a house on the coast,, it is gone and all we have left is a slab. My parents house got a huge pine in the middle of it and a couple of other trees also. but we are ok.. I will get some pics up as soon as I slow down a little. Thanks for everyone's prayers..

    Katrina/Rita

    Yardman1,
I live in Plaquemines Parish, 19 miles south of the Jefferson Parish line. We were EXTREMELY licky, there was water a few miles south of our house and total destruction less than 20 miles south. I also hade a house in Bay St. Louis that was completely destroyed, I now have a double wide lot.

I'm thinking seriously of relocating, this is the second time I have lost property to a hurricane. In 1965, I lost everything in hurricane Betsy. I was married two days shy of a year and had a one month baby. I started over again and did well for myself and family.

I'm retired and don't know if I could get started all over. The summer home will be missed by the grandchildren, but life will go on.

We survived Betsy, we'll survive Katrina.

No problems with Rita, so far.

Glad to here everyone has made it through the storm. Very tragic losing property. Houses may be valuable but one's family is a priceless and irreplacable thing.
