    welding stainless with mig

i have a miller 350p mig with the stainless coming out a 30A spoolgun. i set the volts and feed as per the instructions. the gas is 100% argon. the welds are **** and it sputters and pops. i don't want to use trimix or any exotic type 98/2 stuff, it's a pain in the *** to get. what can i do about this? is there any way to make stainless work well with 25/75 or 100?

What alloy are you welding and with what wire?

You can sometimes get by with C25, but if you really need the properties of the weld to be the same as the stainless you're probably gonna have to bite the bullet and get another gas.

Lets see, you could use some stainless dual-shield wire with 75/25
or just live with the look of 75-25

You may need to adjust from the suggested settings too, they are not written in stone.

    Chilli,

No way will pure argon do you any good. If you just ain't gonna but the right gas (tri-mix) then you'll have to live with what the C-25 will do. The welds will be solid, but the corrosion resistance at the weld will be nil.

I'm not very experienced with anything other than the c-25 gas, and don't work with stainless much either. If it's spitting and popping double check that you have gas running. Is the tank turned on? I've welded bits of stainless here and there, mainly hinges and stuff, with the little mig, and it didn't weld any differently from mild steel. That just sounds like no gas to me.
    Hope this helps!
