I think he might be too young for that right now. I would try letting him weld when hes atleast 4 years old. Make sure he dont have any skin exposed and make sure you have a hood too.
My 2cents anyway.

Haha, my 7 year old brother is getting pretty good in the shop. He can weld a little bit, but he doesn't understand the concept of 'easy does it.' He thinks little circles, or horseshoes, means donut sized circles or real horseshoes, haha. But, he is very good with the chop saw.
Now..Trying to teach a 15 year old girl, and 17 year old girl how to weld, is harder then the 7 year old brother. I did that the other day at a party I was having, and man o man, it's quite the scene, haha. 'heyyyy, how am i supposed to seee?!?' was what was said most, lol.
Anyways, very cool, just get some protection on![]()

When I first started welding I covered up in coveralls, heavy duty gloves, and mask. As the summer temps increased I dropped the coveralls because I found that sparking wasn't a huge issue.
One day had a bright idea of welding near the floor in shorts. Later that night, I wondered why my shins were effectively sun burnt.
Be careful welding without covering up, a few minutes with the intense UV light from the welding process is like a full day in the sun without sunscreen (especially for the little guy in the photo).
