Trés artistic!
My own horseshoe welding this weekend was a little more utilitarian, I needed another hanging bridle hook in the tack room, so I found some scrap 3/8" rod and a couple of pony shoes... took about 10 minutes.
what simple beauty! trouble is i,m 20 miles north of s. f. any ideas where i might locate a good supply of used shoes? race track? maybe farriers in yellow pages?
any suggestions appreciated
Yes, farriers and if that doesn't pan out, try riding stables and riding arenas, etc. Someone will be able to help you get in touch with a horse shoer.Originally Posted by toolaholic
I can see why is was such a quick job, looks like you used those "cheap" new shoes. New shoes are only about $2.00 each. The used ones from your own horse are the expensive ones and the take a lot longer to prep for welding.....pulling nails out of shoes, lots of cleaning and wire brushing to get the **** off, often some straightening and sometimes some grinding to remove clips.....LOL...but used shoes have a lot of "character".Originally Posted by Zrexxer

Ahh, but alas, I'm running my horse barefoot, so no supply of artistically worn footwear to use. On the plus side, the farrier only charges me $25 to trim his hoovesOriginally Posted by whatatrip

you mean your horses don't get chrome polished or gold plated shoes? Man it must suck to be your horse![]()
Yeah, whatatrip.... the wife saw what you did and 5 minutes later had me buying horse shoes off e-bay...I figure I make her happy, she'll forget the Dynasty cost close to $3,000 bucks. Come to think of it, that'll buy a lot of horseshoes. Good job! Thanks for showing us the pix....

Toolaholic, Try Tractor Supply if you have one nearby. Last year I bought shoes online somewhere from a Fairer supply house. Didn't cost very much. Made alot of napkin holders, blanket racks and bridle hooks that my sister gave to her horse buddies behind my back.
I just bought 50 new steel horseshoes from this link on ebay. They are 4˝" by 4˝" mild steel, according to the seller. Have not received my order yet so I can't verify. Cost was $39.99 and he pays shipping. He also said he had over 200,000 of these to sell, so I don't think he is going to run out any time soon.

Try macellis in petaluma, I am sure they can turn you on to some farmer who has a whole barn full of them. If you weld you will know the where it is. metal heaven.![]()
know the place well, what theves! used to weld in j.h. pomroys yard across the hi-way when i was a pile buck. usually trade at vanbebbers, and i like the guys there. do you get treated well at jesse james junk yard?![]()
Every town has a feed store most of them have horse shoes for cheap. We have a race track near here too but racing shoes have a stupid grip or stub on the toe.
Toolholic, I dont buy to much stuff there. but I do go there once in a while just to do the walk through. I did get some aluminium there for a boat project. I would say they have treated me pretty good for the most part. sometimes it takes them a long time to get stuff for you, there have been times that it took the guy such a long time to get back to me, that I decided I didn't need the thing anymore. but you do understand that the owner things that if we can afford to live in the bay area, that we are all a bunch of millionaires who dont know what the real price for metal should be. wel l gots to go. need to get to oakland to see my A's
