Try to take a business course at a local college. My only advice is plan a lot and budget carefully. Scope out the area and look for the best location. Try to become friends with other shops, and look into pricing and what not.

    Just my 2 cents..

Move off the rock, come to Ontario, where there is lots of work, open a shop, work it hard, sell it, move back to the Rock and retire.

And remember to fly off Newfoundland if you can. Too many stories of men taking a boat from the rock, only to have spent the rest of their travel money on beer and gambling on the trip. Hopefully times have changed since when our friends left....

No matter what your passion, you will be broke in a year without a demand for what you produce. Identifying that niche you will fill is key to success, right after some business courses to show you how to deal with that, along with everything else.

I got a ton of buddies from the east coast, working here in the city and surrounding areas, all would rather move back home, but the money is here in Ontario.

Isn't kinda hard for others to relocate to Canada. You have to really be in demand don't you. Maybe it's just us US knotheads that Canada doesn't want.

I think Canada lets alot of people in, even a truck driver now in most provinces is classed in the we need people section. All phazes of home and industry construction as well.

I worked out west in the 80"s, got back into Ontario, Toronto area in late 88. Hate the city, but again, money is here.

Just exactly what type of shop/work you looking to get into in???????

I agree, get out there and kick around some. In the lawn mowing business maybe you can make it starting with no experience but this business is so vast and complicated that most guys have taken some bumps and had several jobs before they went out on their own. Longest I ever spent on one was a year and you need to see how other people do things, good and bad. I havnt got enough fingers and toes to count all of the jobs I had but each new one had a good point. The construction biz is good for this as moving around is normal.
