    TA 185 Tig Torch Question

I just finally joined after lurking around the message board for a moth or so. I wanted to learn how to Tig so after reading all the great posts about the TA 185 I decided to give it a try. I am a little confused on what Tig torches will work with this welder. Do you have to use the ones that have the separate gas line or can you used a torch that has the gas line integrated with the power cable? I am also wanted to get a hand control for the TA 185. Do you have to order the hand controls specifically for the Thermal Arc or are there universal ones that will work. I am looking at CK and Weldcraft flex head torches do you guys have any opinions on those torches?

    Thanks Greg Callahan

Do you currently own the 185? You'll need the foot pedal or hand control built for this machine.

The hand ampehnol control is made for the Thermal 8 pin machines only. I would go with ck for the control . The torch will be a two piece model (Gas line separate from the power cable)

If they do not make a adapter for converting over to a one piece torch, I doubt you will find one?

The T/A185 comes with a foot control.

The torch has separate gas and power lines. The power connects to the welder with a Dinse connector; the gas lines use some sort of tube fitting. IIRC it comes with a CK torch (not a flex-head though).

I currently have the TA 185 It came with the CK 17 torch and the TA foot contorl. I wanted to get a hand control and a flex torch. Is CK the only ones who offers a hand control with the Thermal Arc 8 pin connector? I also realy like the torches that Brand X showed in this picture. Will they work with the TA 185.

    Thanks Greg

You can by just the power source only. The two piece torch will go right on with only a dinse connector and then just hook up the gas line to the machine. I have the TSW 300 which is the same setup.

Do you know if Weldcraft makes a hand contorl that will fit the TA 185?

Weldcraft might, because they do make button controls. The weldcraft torches will work on your machine.
It comes with a pick of two heads and extras are $25.00 The flex body was in the package too.

I have a TA185 and use a Miller N/S hand controller with an adaptor cord 8pin to 14pin sold by Thermal Arc. Kind of pricey $80 -$90 I think. Could probably make your own.
