    Press brake

I made this out of crap I had laying around. It will accept a 10" wide piece of metal, and probably bend 1/4" thick at that width. I mainly built it to bend 3/16" steel for control arm mounts and other bracketry.

I like the design. Nice job. Those welds look great. Could you take some close-up shots?

That's a pic of the good side. The bird poop is on the other side.
What would you like a close up of?

I've walked bare-foot in the chicken house. I can take it. Both sides if there is something that a picture will help explain. Looks like a project that will have a lot of interest. Could it be made to take removable punch and die for various thicknesses?

The upper die is removeable, could be replaced with a more rounded leading edge to give a more gradual bend on the inside. The lower die is made of two pieces of 1" square stock that are sitting on the corner/point of the square so that they make a V between them. the frame is made from 2x4 3/16" tube and some 1/4" plate for the bottom plate. the upper die is made of 1/2" flat bar that is 2" wide. I beveled the leading press edge with a flap wheel. There are some guides on the frame toward the bottom that keep the lower die centered while it travels up and down. They are made of 3/8" round stock.

how is the upper die removeable?

looks like the jack would have to come out to remove the upper die

Correct. Remove springs, remove jack, and then the die will slide upward and come out.

Okay, I went out and bent some 1/8" flat bar, about 2" wide.
First pic is after the first bend.
second pic is with the bender compressed on the second bend.
third pic is the finished metal.
I still need to finish beveling the leading edge, it still has about a 3/16" flat edge to it right now.
