Talking A welding table by any other name...

Yesterday I finally layed out the pieces for the top of my welding table. Some of you call it a layout table. It is 4'X8'X1/2" on 2"X2"X1/8"tube, it will be on adjustable (screw-type) legs w/drop down wheels of some sort to move it around. Anyways here are some pictures.

Durn the luck These are the pre any actual work pictures. Maybe when the kids are asleep and the wife is in bed I can go down to the shop and dink around on it tonight and get a coupl pictures. It is coming along.

Mind if I ask how much the materials cost, I priced out a 3'x5" table with 3"x3" sq tube frame, and a 1/2" top, it was upwards of $500......

I wanted to make it as heavy as possible, without having to bolt it to the ground, thats why I wanted the 3x3, but now im rethinking that idea....

Bigger legs means more stability, dont forget about the load that could be put on the tabe.
Its nothing for me to put a 3000lb part on my table and then use the hilo to push it around.
All of my tables are mounted on wheels.

here's a 4x8 sheet of 1/4 inch w/ 2 inch square legs, and scaffold casters with large wheels make it easy to move around.

the table isn't perfectly flat but it works good

    Crithpy..

Man I wish I had those wheels. I am putting some adjustable legs on mine just for leveling (1" of play). I am going to install some removable wheels to move it around but at present I don't have any to make them permanent. The only bummer will be (possibly) jacking it up to install/remove the wheels. I will post some more pictures in the next couple days when it is done.

    JMcKeone...

I spent (and don't tell my wife, we are seperated since last saturday and this might put her over the edge) $350 on the 4'X8'X1/2" sheet and $200 on the 2"X2"X1/8" square tubing. 100 feet of tubing.

northerntool.com has the casters and they lock in two directions so the table won't move, and it doesn't.
