    Bandsaw Mods In Progress

Well Tuesday i plan to go buy some 1" square tube to start on the band saw modifications.

So far I have the saw and adjustable down feed as well as a catch pan!

Here is a basic idea of how it will look.

I hate how low to the ground the saw is so I plan making it from floor to cutting deck 32" The catch pan is 16"x40"x2" deep The frame will be 16" x 40 x 32" tall except I plan to make the bottom of thr frame extend a extra 6' and put some wheels on it.

I have a small parts washer I never use I will use to contain the fluid and pump it back topside to the blade.
    Any Suggestions??

I would not bother with the coolant unless you will be cutting 8 hours a day.

I know the coolant mod is not that useful for these little saws but I have everything needed and my brother in law had his sheetmetal guy fab the pan and brought it to me for part of a x-mas gift. I mentioned I thought about doing a coolant mod so he suprised me with the pan. I might ought to go ahead and complete that mod. Hate to have him over and the pan sitting in the corner of the shop.

The downfeed I hope to have done as well and will take some step by step photos for ya.

It all been done there, with pictures. He even used a small parts washer as his coolant source.

    GunLocators,

Sent you an email, I was on the surplus site and could not find the downfeed part you got from them. Do you have a item # or something? I would like to get one so that I can get it installed. Thanks

The part lying in the pan...is that what you're calling the "downfeed"? If so, where did you get it and how much was it? I bought a used saw and it could use a new one...or at least a new valve on it.

    Some good pics here:

    A little more description

    and the part here:

It's basically a double acting cylinder with a line connecting the two ends and a valve in between. This one provides resistance in either direction, but I think it might be more useful with a check valve/flow control valve combo so that there would be no pressure reduction on lifting, but adjustable rate going down. But for $8.99 it's hard to beat as is.

Heck, even if you run it dry the pan will be useful for catching dross and small cutoffs.

    George,
everytime somebody drags up the famous surplus bandsaw parts, It brings to mind Jim's Saw. He put it together from dumpster parts. This has to be the best little import clunker around? The funny thing is, it looks like he could not find a hydraulic downfeed in his dumpster.

But it does come with a valve that works fine? The page says that it doesn't come with a knob...so I'm assuming that the valve itself is there.

I'm not positive that is the one I got, but it sure looks the same. When I got mine, it came with the knob (and the valve). But that's been a while...
