Just got my HH175 yesterday and got it assembled, went to plug it in and noticed my shop is wired with the crowsfeet-pattern socket, while the welder has what looks like a larger version of a standard 110V plugin. My father-in-law (who just retired from the electric company) had never seen a plug like this, but went to an electrical supply house and a welding supply store today and described what I had, but nobody can find any reference to a plug of this style.
Granted, I'm a newbie...this is my first MIG and haven't done any welding for about 15 years...but how the heck do I hook this thing up??
Thanks for any input.
The welder has a generic 220 volt/20 amp plug. I can't imagine why you can't find one. Plugs and recepticles have a standard NEMA designation. Try Grainger. They sell the recepticles and their catalog will have mfg. part numbers as well as the NEMA designation.

If this doesn't help, email me and I will get you the numbers.

I got mine at Lowe's
Lay a piece of paper down and make an imprint of the plug to take along to the store. Surely they have them.

This is a 50 amp 230 volt plug and it will take the pin type 60 amp receptical. Part number for it is 770022 and you can get it at Tractor supply, Lowes, Granger, Northern Tool, Sears, or Harbor Freight.
Thanks

OK, we got it figured out...aweaver did the same thing we did: we went looking for a 20-amp receptacle, not a 50-amp. They really need to make a mention of that in their Owner's Manual, just for reference, I think.
Thanks everyone! Should have it hooked up and working by tonight.

So my brothers and friends can use my welder, I left the plug on the hh175 and made 1 1/2 foot pig tails that change the plug to a clothes dryer plug and the crowsfoot type plug.
No muss no fuss.

I went through that plug hunt myself when I bought my HH175. I got my receptacle at Home Depot ( we don't have a Lowe's ). When I inquired on the old forum about why a 20amp machine has a 50amp plug Rock said they put the same plug on a whole bunch of their welders to cut costs. He probably has forgotten about that. Probably a senior moment. Ha Ha

I start by loaning somthing cheap then I might loan somthing else. Mostly when I loan something I'm there helping use it. Stopped loaning tools to one son. He can give away his own stuff.
