Nice job done by those two , I do believe they may get this boat on the water.
A guy not to far from me started building a boat this size nearly 30 years ago, he worked on it for about 6 years, got it almost done then his wife died. Boat sat for about 15 years till he died, boat got torched to pieces after the estate sale, as nobody wanted it.

With the hull completed they are 1/3 to completed boat. At least now they can work year round on it.
I posted the link not only because of metal content but best web site I have seen of that type. Each page loads fast with my slow modem and clearly documents process. Throughout a real upbeat attatude is present that is needed to complete such a big project.
Your right too many big boat projects never get launched.

Ed, that sounds like you are describing my building in Western Pa. I have had numerous people stop and tell me about the gigantic steel boat that was constructed in my driveway back in the seventies. No one really knows what happened to it, we do know that the owner of this placed passed away.

That's quite an ambitious project and appears to be coming out quite well. I hate to sound sexist but that's quite an impressive home project for anyone much less two women my hats off to them.

Awhile back I wrote to them and asked what they were using..
The MIG is a Miller 250 and the plasma cutter is a Thermal Dynamics Pakmaster 50 XL.

the plasma cutter is a Thermal Dynamics Pakmaster 50 XL.
I guess my assumption that it was a miller plasma cutter was wrong.

they've added a couple of more days of pics, up to 151 now, it's really starting to look like a boat now.
on day 148 (http://www.sandyscb.com/day148.htm), what is the blue Miller product shown in the 2nd pic from the top ? That's what made me think they were using a Miller plasma cutter.

Are these the same folks I just read about in the paper a few months back, where they have to finish by a specific date because their rode is being modified meaning that if they don't get the boat out by then they will never be able to?
That's an awesome project they have taken on. Kudos to them.

Morpheus.. I have your answer.
I heard back from Georgena
The little welder is a miller cricket mig. It is a little 110volt mig/ no gas just flux core wire,
I think it is 80 or 100 amp. It will do 1/4 " but the duty cycle is only about 20% max at that
amperage. We use it for tacking while the big miller is in use ( about the only use on the boat)
I gave her the link to this thread..
She said she'll try and stop in sometime.

that's interesting Scott. I've never heard of a 'Cricket' ... I wonder if that's what the Miller 135 became. thanks for the info.

that'd be cool. i'd be interested to know how much welding and fabrication experience they had before this project and how long the project has been going on, how many total hours invested, and what the estimated time frame for completion is .
That's just a HUGE project, like it says on the day1 page. they've built their lives around it ... where they live, what they drive.
