How is this stuff made? I am looking into making some of this stuff for personal use and have no idea how to go about it right off.
Im not worried about the logs or the brackets welded on the ends. Just interested in how to go about twisting the tubing around itself.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Without special tools, start by wrapping smaller gauge wire around one strand of the larger wire, or round bar. Then clamp one end of 2 "strands" of the larger in a vise. Grab the other end with a pair of vise-grips. Better yet, weld them together and then to a piece of something long that you can twist them with.

Google "picket twister". There are various types and people make their own. One of our members made a nice powered one and put some videos on Youtube. (search Picket Twister/Ring Maker on Youtube.)

Do a search on this board and on the Miller board for "picket twisters". Should give you a few ideas to experiment with.
Edit: I was posting at the same time usmcpop was ......

Trying to twist even thick wall tubing to desired shape without collapsing the tube ??? Just use solid round bar.

I have a picket twister that twists 1/2" sq bar and that wouldn't be any harder. I would just need a die with a 1/2"x1" slot and twist away. I could do 15' lengths...Bob

Picture looks like it was taken not too far from my house. I built a twister last year to do just (sans barbs) that with 1/2" solid bar. If you are in the Phoenix area and want to try it let me know and I'd be willing to make another twister, or show you how.

I realize this is an old thread, but couldn't you fill the tubes with sand to keep them from collapsing? Would be a lot lighter weight than solid bar when you finished and poured out the sand.

You can fill tubes with water and freeze them. After bending simply let the ice melt. Thats how they bend tubing for brass musical instruments...Bob

That is an interesting solution (no pun intended), but the tubing doesn't swell and split?
I've tried packing exhaust pipe with sand to prevent it collapsing when bending it with the HF-type benders. It helps but the sand moves around and I got more wrinkles than I liked. Maybe next time I will use wet sand and freeze it. That might be the ticket. ;) That would limit exhaust work to winter months and I'm not sure my beaters will cooperate.
Anyone tried lead shot, or BB's for bends that don't have to be real handsome?
