a chrome, nickel, moly alloy. When purcshing ar plate, the chemistry is most important. AR 400 500 ? Hardox 400 500? The most important question should be whats the chemical content, and not the max. but the min. Hardness is important , but i'll show you steels with lower hardness that out proform steels with higher hardness and easier to weld and cut !

Metalurgy 101
Toughness is the ability of steel to absorb energy
Hardness is the ability of steel to withstand wear
Whats muddy , it's fact ! I'll give you an alloy thats through hardened vs a carbon glorified ar 400 500 that has only surface hardness that will blow away results in toughness and abrasion resistance! My point was check the min alloy content and not the max most steel companies publish.
CARBON CHROME NICKEL MOLY GOTTA PRODUCE THOSE CARBIDES AND HAVE THEM SUPPORTED TO GET BOTH IMPACT & ABRASION RESISTANCE!

I went "off to see the Wizzard".
..But the wizzard wazzn't in.
Untill he is, I can't question the wizz.
..So for now I can't weigh in.

What form of chromecarbide, are you talking chromecarbide overlay on mild steel plate ? I've experienced great abrasion resistance but never any success with impact resistance, to brittle .

Chromiumcarbide over mild steel as an overlay. So when we welded it to something you had to weld on the edge where the mild steel was, and plug weld it if it was a big enough piece.
