A client, who has a couple of our dogs, wanted me to devise a simple gate latch. This is what I came up with. The tubing is 1.25" square galvanized. It move freely to the vertical position to open the gate. This principal could be used for lots of things, I would think. click the link at the bottom to see the building in progress.

I am sure the Dogs gave it a test drive to see if it would hold. They may figure it out and let themselves out. Is there a way to lock it?.

Or maybe the dogs will figure out how to go on a diet and squeeze thru the bars.:D

I built a latch for my friends gate (and dog) The dog just jumps over the top of the 6 foot fence now. :D Most the time he will just find a loose fence board, and head out to play with the cow next door.

No, the home owner didn't want that, but it wouldn't be hard to do. He had a bungee on it before.
