I agree!..but it sure does seem like a lot just to tow a Vespa!

Think about it: That Vespa is probably worth more than the VW and the trailer. David

When I was a kid, I made a bike trailer from the front axle off a junked '59 VW. Now, I wish I had the '59

V'dubs were great cars, especially the old 36 horsepower ones.

Air-cooled '60/70s VWs are making a come-back for restorers. Prices of even rusted out beetles, microbuses, and transporters are way high. I had 61, 63, 64, 68 Beetles. One even with the goofy auto-stickshift. Never had a car again as good as the 63 was. The 67 1500cc 12volt might have been the best designed. The John Muir, How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive book taught me how to fix it and how cars worked. I met him in 1971 in New Mex. but I was probably the 100,000th hippie kid w/ a vw to stop in and he had a garage to run. The heaters were the best ;).

I had a early 60's Microbus (with the windows in the roofline) that I put a Porsche engine in. It had the stock 40 horse engine with the governor. The Porsche made it 'come alive'.....:D

It also had a Bendix (I think) gas heater.

Stock VW's needed a can of sterno to defrost the windows. The frost formed on the inside....

Those were the days.

That's why I have 5 motorcycles, a car, a pickup, 2 rototillers and a bunch of other 'junk'. I'm afraid if I ever get rid of anything again, I'll live to regret it.

That is not a Vespa. Vespa carried spare tire on left side under a cover. 1979 I saw lots of Vespas in Italy. All were missing spare tire and side covers.

I had a Vespa and towed it with device bolted to trailer hitch that held front wheel off ground. 2 straps to handle bars to keep it upright. Honda station wagon did the towing.

Could be a Piaggio. I like the 4 wheel deriviatve myself but the Can Am Spyder has way more performance, it's just not a motorcycle in the sense of the word so I won't own one.

Honestly, not being a scooter buff, I can't tell the difference, they all 'look' the same.....:D

Here's a Lambretta with a VW instead of the other way around.

Excuse me, I was using "Vespa" in the same sense as we use "Coke" to describe a soft drink. My bad, I admit it. The only scooter I had even close to those was the one Sears sold back in the '60's. I loved that little red, 3-speed on the handlebars, foot crank at the motor on the left side, unit. May even have been an "Allstate". David

The kid down the street from us had one.
