Beautiful again...how do you do the knot look? Do you heat and form it right on the gate, or prebend them some first?

No heat, I bend them in a "U" shape first then lay the gate down and hammer the rest of the bend, cut, weld & chase it clean. I love the look of the wrap too; it looks like leather lashed around the joint.

I use one of these to do the "U" bends. cheap tool that has paid for itself a thousand times!

Nice craftsmanship. What kind of finish did you use, sort of looks like a natural rust color?

yes the finishes that are not obviously painted are rusted, muriatic acid & peroxide.
