When selected to do a welding job we tend to over look our surroundings and jump right into the job and show the shop steward our nice work. looks like a possible trip to the hospital from a piece of scrap metal to the leg or your other joint...... Be careful, I'm sure your steward was pleased with your work and you need to do the same nice work for him tomorrow.....

Plus, pant legs do not go in boot tops when welding... pretty much guarantees a piece of hot slag will find its way into your boot.

Safety is becoming very big in the welding industry. You should really learn how to work safely especially since your in school it should become a priority.
Depending where you'll end up working I've seen people get kicked out for their first safety violation never receiving a warning. Sometimes they will even kick out the whole crew.

I have to agree, safety, although sometimes pounded into your head, is most important. If you see someone doin stuff like that, remind them, trust me, they will remind you one day and you will be thankful. Ive scraped brains of a highway before and im sure someone out there will still ride a motorcycle without a helmet. Just remember "STUPID HURTS"
