Well, this afternoon I had 4 tabs that are going on the bottom of my new table legs to cut circles out of. Casters will slide into the legs and get adjusted for height. Since the table is heavy, I am using beefy materials. The tabs are 1/2 inch thick. I needed a hole approx 2 inches in diameter in the center. The T-Dyne Cutmaster 52 had a slightly worn tip, and did not do a great job. :( So I tried another tip and piercing the hole messed up the new tip on that one. So after lots of curse words, I pulled out the victor torch, fit in a size 0 tip and cut away. Cuts were fine and no finickiness about air pressure or anything else. :D Later I cut a letter out of 1/8 with the plasma, and it was awesome. :D

I have read many times about how the torch is better at thick, and I am now a believer. Plasma for thinner, and torch for thicker. Unless you have big big power. Besides the torch has fire.

Sorry, didn't even think of pics.

If you couldn't cut 1/2" with a TD52, you've got something more serious going on than a "slightly worn tip..." Mine will cut 1" without blinking, 1/2" is well within the capability of that machine.

After the air pressure and or the incorrect volume of DRY AIR/MOISTURE free air. The dirty or bad grounding point, to far from the cut area are the biggest problem with the plasma cutters.

I have cut 3/4 never gone as thick as an inch. It was fine. I even cut up a small railroad track with the t-dyne, just to check it's capabilities. I am not sure what the issue was. Most likely it was something I was doing, after the tip and electrode were switched it should have been fine, but...

Maybe I was holding the tip too far away or...

Anyway, the torch was great. Don't get me wrong, I love my plasma cutter, but I love my torch too.

Sometimes the gas axle is just the best way.
