I have a Miller Elite AD hood (camo if you wanted to know, never know when you might have to sneak up and weld something). Seems like most of the time it doesn't sense that it needs to turn on. By that I mean, when I'm setting up getting ready to weld, I can't see, so I have to hold my hand up close to the sensors and then the sheild activates so I can see through it. Is this normal or am I missing something.

Your sensitivity setting is too high. The ambient light is causing it to darken. Try moving the control to a less sensitive setting.

I had the simular problem one time when I had a "Stainless fume hood " over my area...It would reflect the light from the Florescent lights over head and trigger my hood  I had to almost shut the sensitivity OFF to get the hood so I could see through it before striking an arc......Was a PITA:D
