The 500i is a 27 amp machine. The only place I've seen it for sale yet is Northern Tool, who wants $1300 for it. At that price point, I'd recommend you put another $85 with that and get a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52 from IOC for $1385 delivered. The TD is a 60 amp machine and has twice the duty cycle of the Hobart.
Plus, if you buy the TD before 9/30/09 they'll give you a coupon for a free autodark helmet or a free Victor Journeyman set.

Great white,
You don't really say what you are looking for.....do you want a unit that operates on 120 or 240 volt...or both?
Try the Hypertherm Powermax30 out....it has more effective power than the others listed....operates on 120 or 240....and provides the best consumable life (nozzles and electrodes) in the business...and is built in New Hampshire, USA.....by a company that has never had a layoff...and is owned by its employees!

I avoid the combined PC/Compressor units...you end up paying too much for a small single purpose compressor. The Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38 I had was a teriffic unit! Best kerf (cut) I've yet seen! BUT Virtually every new Plasma Cuteer buyer BUYS TOO SMALL...meaning they later take a big hit selling it used, and end up buying what they should have bought in the first place.
My advice: Buy the next one up from the one you think "Will Do".
