I have one of these now for a few years and the battery runs down when not used for a while. At first I could lay it in the sun or in front of a window and it would be OK, but now it's getting a little worse as sometimes there will be a short time when it will not work right. Does anyone know if it can be taken apart and the battery replaced or would I have to replace the whole cartridge? Thanks for any replies.

From your owner's manual:

"The welding filter has an automatic switch-off function, which increases the service life of the product. If no light falls upon the solar cells for a period of approx. 15 min., the welding filter automatically switches itself off. To reactivate the filter, the solar cells must be briefly exposed to daylight. If the welding filter no longer activates or darkens when the welding arc ignites, it must be regarded as non-functional and replaced."

Or, since it is probably not under warranty anymore, you could take it apart and see what type of battery it uses, then find a replacement.
