How come the forum crunches my pics down? I have under 100 kb and it used to work fine but now it sizes jpegs into tiny pics.

Apparently one of Hobart's new "opportunities for efficiency." I wrote the forum admin and asked/complained about it, which they - not surprisingly - ignored.

If the customer service guys on the welder end were as bad as the support for the forum, we'd all be buying Lincolns.

I had that experience using the 'Yellow Box'...I went back to Tiny Pic, no more problems...:)

I'm surprised that they haven't kicked me off here and Miller both for my comments about the TINY UNUSABLE SIZE pictures.

Man, I've told you guy many times if you want normal size pics use a link to an off site data base like Photobucket...photobucket is free, and you can post 1024 x 768 pics. So it takes an extra step, but it's just as quick as posting through the forum. You can see my setup by clicking the link below, for an example. It's egregious how they shrink photos here, but then, they all take up space, so having the pics offsite is a benefit to everyone.

Has to do with server capacity and bandwidth size. In this down economy, the companies are cutting costs. And since this site probably doesn't bring in what it costs to run the bean counters are being held at bay with minor cut backs.
But as Rocky says the off site photo storage works and after a couple of uses you don't even notice if takes longer.

Besides what is anybody that is posting on this site, doing that it will make a difference in the 40 secs it takes to copy and post the link :D:D

I agree the tiny pic thing bites hard!!

But rocky is 100% correct on the off site hosting.
Its wonderful to look at large pics. But it is more wonderful to look at large pics that open on the page.

I still have trouble using Photobucket :(, There site is great since they have a img link, making posting pics just a click away. There is something with my browser that does not like photobucket, I only get 2 or 3 attempts to use the back button.

If anyone else has trouble like this, the one I use now is Picas 3 from goggle.

It does not have the IMG link but it does have a image link section. Where I can select no link, Image only tab. Then I can choose what size I like from 140 pixel to 800 pixel. I prefer to look at the pics in the forum so I take the time to add the to my post with the pic location between the brackets.

This is not as easy as photobucket but picasa makes up for this in the download area. I drop my pics to the computer from the camera. Then when I open the viewer all I have to do is star the pics I want and click sync to net. All I have to do is click view online album and I am at there website ready to post to this or any other site.

Sorry to run on at the mouth, I hope this helps someone. Even if you dont like change go check out picasa, its a super site and program.

I used to use the forum for storing pics that I was only going to use here, and if the size isn't an issue, still do. But for pics that I may want to refer to later, or on a different forum, or whatever, I use p-bucket.

Less aggravating than the resizing or the quarantined posts, is the fact that nobody from admin will respond to questions. That's what really bites!

The problem with storing off-site is that pictures tend to disappear, thus making the illustration useless in the future. Hobart website programmers: There is no referential integrity when it comes to off-site links that are not under your control.

I just uploaded a picture that was 80 KB and it was reduced to 17 KB, making it too small to be of much use. How can you look at the details of a weld bead under such circumstances?

Storage is cheap and bandwidth isn't a whole lot more.

What happens when someone posts weld pictures and says "see how the Lincoln did a much better job than the Hobart" when the opposite is true, or there's no significant difference?

If the lack of response to other forum related issues is any indication, I don't think anybody is listening. Anybody care to prove me wrong?

Really is too bad, because the discussion here is wonderful.

Just my 2.1¢

Dave, can you hear me? How about now? Huh? Hello?

How about we take up a collection and buy a box of genuine Q-tips and send them off to ITW?

The Miller forums are the same way, I have given up trying to look at the pictures because they are so small.

We are listening and this is being discussed internally. More to come soon. Thanks for your patience. As always, we appreciate the feedback as that is what drives improvements.

...and for those who don't know, and are Windows users..
Right Click on the scanned page Zrexxer posted, left click "View", then, above, go to "View" at the very top of the screen, and click "Zoom"...the "Zoom In"...each time you do that it bumps it up a bit, keeping doing the "View...Zoom" and it continues to do so each time you click.:)

In Firefox, I just use CTRL + to zoom in, CTRL - to zoom out and CTRL 0 to reset to normal. Quick and easy.

Hotfoot, what version of Windows and IE are you using? I have IE7 on my XP laptop here at work and I don't have a view when I right click.
