Well I think I stumbled on to a cool deal for once. It seems that the handicap people had a law passed that public pools have to be able to lift them in and out of the water.....
So these guys I got hooked up with have been building and distributing a STEEL product that does just that.....After 25 years of production someone came up with the idea to redesign and incorporate a battery powered motor and make them out of ALUMINUM....you guessed it I'm welding up the pieces for the prototype........Should be fun

Dang! What kind of liability comes with a job like that? Do you have to carry a hefty insurance policy?

My LLC is a million dollars coverage but that might not be enough if you screw with the wrong
customers.........I try to keep my eyes wide open when I'm approached by a new account.....;)

BC,

Check out "aluminum boat davits" on google. Might give you some good ideas.

A davit designed for lifting jet skis would be a good "takeoff" point.

Odd that I should read this post at this time BC. I was on vacation in Panama City Beach, FL. last month and the place we stayed, Edgewater Beach Resort had a lift on their main pool such as you described. Being a former Industrial Maintenance Tech I as curious enough to give it a very good once over. It was of aluminum construction, with a plastic seat, it swiveled around over the pool deck and back over the shallow end of the pool. This unit was powered by a motor, it was DC drive and the DC was changed from AC approximately ten feet from the edge of the pool decking within a waterproof composite electrical box. The controls were on a cord so a handicapped person could use the lift by themselves, and the control handle could not get in the water. A nice set-up if I may say so. If I had known you were getting into this I would have taken pictures to share. Good Luck, David

Were pneumatic solutions considered? (no electricty liability). I think also of an aluminum perforated deck, with a railing, that is raised/;lowered by an air bag or bags. It would raise to poolside level, then latch to the side for a steady, safe entry and exit, then the latching would retract mechanically.:)

Chlorine water and aluminum don't really like each other too much. Hopefully the immersion portion is stainless?

Just a thought.....

Good luck BC! Hope all works out for ya bud!

OK the first proto type failed on the test stand and I did a second mod proto type last week and I'm waiting to see what happens with it......The seat portion of the lift is stainless and should be fine (That part has been in use since 1988)
