hey guys, new to the site, got a question, i have a gpb-261 i think, it has a 4 cyl flat head engine, everything runs exept when i first start it up it will not weld UNTIL!!! i plug a light into the 110 socket and then it changes tones, AND THEN it starts to weld, whats up with this:confused:

Sounds like a sticky brush(s) and maybe dirty commutators and using the dc outlet is enough to throw a jump into it and get it working.
You may want to take a look at each brush and gently hold the spring back and make sure each spring/brush can move freely in the holder, a few drops of lube like PB blaster or wd40 or lightweight oil squirted on each spring where it pivots will help keep those free and in turn put proper tension on the brushes to make better contact.
be forewarned: if the brushes are tight and don't seem to want to slide out of the holders, they are quite brittle and may disintegrate if you use too much force. If its been laying around not being used one or more of the brushes may be seized.
wash off the surface of the commutators with a good electrical contact cleaner and it should shine up when you put a few hours on it.
I am wondering does your unit have the optional volt/amp gauges installed above the control wheel?
