my first thought is that it would be low on oil. I am not sure about the older engine driven welders, but the new bobcat and trailblazer will not idle if it is low on oil. The reason for this is, it has to maintain high rpm's to keep up the oil pressure. If it was idling and low on oil then there would not enough oil pressure, so it is a safety feature so you wont burn up the motor. I hope that makes since to you.

Hello DC, which engine is in U'r machine & how old is it & how many hours on it? Reason I'm asking so many questions, is maybe it needs a good water blastin & spray lubin! I'd take the switch off & play with it a little bit & then re install it! Mine wasn't going bac to idle & I did that & it started working! Now it takes it a few minutes to go bac to idle when you switch it from rabbit to turtle! Mine would bac fire if I ran it wide open & then turned it off but when I got idle working it worked great!

Also check linkage
Throttle solenoid resistance 25 or so ohms
Could be idle PCB or Control switch

Where did you come up with that jewel? Any engine that has oil pressure or oil level monitoring shuts the engine OFF if it's low, not runs it at WOT. Check page 45 of the Trailblazer manual if you need further confirmation.
To the OP, there's really just a few things to check here. First, check the linkage to be sure it's not binding. Check the solenoid to make sure the plunger in that isn't binding. And finally, check the idle module. It could also be the engine switch but that's probably less likely.

Do a search on this and the Miller board for Bobcat and idle - this is one of the most common questions asked. You will get detailed troubleshooting guidelines. Once you've eliminated the basics - come back and post the specifics - what you tested and what you didn't, and we can help you go from there. Could be the solenoid, the idle control module, the sense circuitry or even a bad welding lead. Without knowing what you've looked at, can't help more.

dc,
As Roho said, it takes a couple of minutes to idle down. If that's not the issue, then Big_Eddy is on the right track. Let us know what you've checked, and found out.

Thats what my LWS told me when I was looking at the trailblazer and bobcat. I did not check with miller but the LWS seemed like they knew what they were talking about. Ill call miller in the morning and talk to someone in the engine driven welder department. Ill post up what they say.
I was also told that the new Traiblazer and bobcat now idle down very fast after starting the motor.

Ill call miller in the morning Another pearl of wisdom from LWS counter jockeys who not only don't know what they're talking about, but can't even make up a believable story. Save your dime, here's what Miller says about it, in black and white:

Zrexxer,
that's the same page I read last night. I called and verified. I talked to John at miller and he said it just a little low on oil it will continue to run, but not at high rpms. Then he said when the oil get below a certain point then it will just stop the motor.

I returned from 2 week trip and was driving early Honda Civic from airport. Engine died as first stop sign stop and again at red light stop. 2nd time noticed low oil pressure light before engine died. Warning light to her was only for me.

Hello, I have solved the problem that was having with bobcat 225g (my first post) after having it checked out at welding shop @
$90.00 a hour.He said i needed a idle control panel ($115.00)then removing and cleaning carb.($100.00)the machine is perfect he says .
